The Crofting Commission is today, Tuesday 16th of April 2024, announcing changes to how applications are to be submitted. Starting Monday, April 29th, 2024, the Commission will no longer accept applications sent by email.
This includes both Crofting Commission applications and croft registration forms for the Registers of Scotland.
Emailed applications were introduced as a temporary measure during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Crofting Commission’s digital system has improved significantly, making emailed applications unnecessary.
The digital system allows for electronic signatures, which is not possible with emailed forms. Additionally, digital applications reduce the need to contact applicants for missing information, making the process smoother for everyone. The Commission also will soon introduce real-time online status for digitally submitted applications.
What are the Options?
Apply Online: The Crofting Commission recommends using their digital application system. This is the easiest and most efficient way to apply. You can also apply online by uploading a previously completed PDF application form, or by uploading a scanned hand written application form.
Paper Applications: If you cannot apply online, paper applications are still available.
Croft registration forms for the Registers of Scotland must still be submitted on paper. You must send them to the Crofting Commission, who will then forward them to the Registers of Scotland after checking them.
