Grazings Officer - £32,140pa

This exciting opportunity sits within?the Policy, Grazings, Development and Communications team of 10 staff. The team has a varied remit. You will focus on Common Grazings. Common Grazings are sizable areas of croft land with a shared management structure to graze livestock. Shareholders in the Common Grazings can form a committee to run the grazings.

As the post holder you will provide advice and guidance for a wide range of situations for shareholders. This involves encouraging shareholders to form grazings committees, answering shareholder queries, processing regulatory applications and helping to run training events. This involves correspondence via email, telephone and in some instances visiting the grazings and meeting shareholders in person. The records for the grazings can be historical and complex and an element of the role will be to assimilate and analyse this information. Investigation into the records is done to understand and resolve any issues such as uncertainty over share positions.

Excellent communication is vital to the role. You should be able to develop and maintain good working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including internal Commission staff and external contacts such as crofters, solicitors, landlords and government departments. The role would suit someone who works well within a team, is calm and professional in working with customers, has good attention to detail and an interest in learning and understanding complex records. You will receive full training on the role. You will report to the Grazings Manager and also work closely with another Grazings Officer and the Grazings Administrator.

You will work from your computer and will become familiar with using the case work processing system known as CIS which is bespoke system for which you will receive the required training for. You will also regularly use Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Edge and Adobe Acrobat.

Casework Administrator - £29,013pa

The role sits within the Regulatory team, processing regulatory and registration applications for the Crofting Commission. These include a wide range of applications in which crofters can apply to make a change to their croft. The casework administrator role will involve checking applications are correct, corresponding with the applicant about their application, updating information on the case processing system and preparing the resulting official orders and directions. You will get to know a range of regulatory & registration processes and will receive training on the legal background, as well as the practical processes involved and how to correspond with applicants.

The job is interesting, varied and busy, and you will become familiar with the range of applications and learn about the variety of croft situations. The job would suit someone who has an eagerness to learn and is confident using IT systems. You will regularly use Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Edge and Adobe Acrobat and will become familiar with using the case work processing system known as CIS. Once you are experienced in the role you will have the opportunity to be involved in improvement groups and you will also have the opportunity to learn basic Gaelic conversation if you wish to.

The posts are advertised as being based at the main Crofting Commission office based in Inverness. However, there may be the option to be based at other offices within the crofting counties (Highlands and Islands, Argyll and Moray) and we would strongly encourage interested candidates based within the crofting counties to apply. The roles will combine working from home with some attendance in the office.
