Freedom of information (FOI)

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 gives you the right to request information from the Crofting Commission. We must provide it unless there's a good reason not to.

How to request information

Requests must be in writing (which includes email). Send your request to:

Crofting Commission, Great Glen House, Leachkin Road, Inverness, IV3 8NW or by email to compliancehub@crofting.gov.scot with "FOI" in the subject line.

Please include your name, a postal address or email address for our reply, and a phone number if you can.

You can also find our guidance on vexatious or repeated requests on our website, and more information on your rights at the Scottish Information Commissioner's website.

Fees and timescales

  • Will there be a fee? We do not usually charge for requests. However, we may charge a fee if your request places a significant demand on our staff or finances. You can read our Charging Policy for details.
  • Timescale: We will respond to your request within 20 working days. If a request is complex, we will contact you to explain the delay and let you know when you can expect a full response.

What to do if you're unhappy with our response

  • Request a review: If you are not happy with our response, you can ask for a review within 40 working days. We will look at your request again and aim to provide a new response within 20 working days.
  • Appeal to the Scottish Information Commissioner: If you are still not satisfied, you have the right to appeal to the Scottish Information Commissioner. You should keep all your correspondence with us, as you will need to provide copies to the Commissioner.

FOI requests

We keep a public record of all freedom of information requests we receive. You can click on a request's date to see a summary. If you want a full copy of a response, email us at compliancehub@crofting.gov.scot and include the case number.
