Grazings committees

Grazings committees are appointed to manage, maintain and improve common grazings.  They are essential for ensuring grazings are regulated and kept in good condition for the future. Committees are also a valuable source of knowledge and help sustain a sense of community. Committees are appointed by the crofters who have a share in a common grazings.

Finding or appointing a committee

You can search for details of current grazings committees in our register of crofts

To form a new committee, you must complete the 'notification of new grazings committee' form (below) and email it to grazings@crofting.gov.scot

  • Important: When appointing a new committee, the meeting must be announced publicly in a local newspaper. We don’t accept notification forms if a public advertisement has not been published.

You may be able to get up to £500 to help set up a new committee. Contact your nearest Scottish Government Rural Payments and Inspections Directorate office to find out if you qualify.
