Crofting Commission Welcomes Scottish Government Consultation on Crofting Reform

The Crofting Commission has today, Thursday 6th June 2024, welcomed the launch of a Scottish Government consultation on crofting reform. The consultation seeks views on a number of key issues affecting the future of crofting in Scotland.

Malcolm Mathieson, Convener of the Crofting Commission, said: “This consultation is a vital opportunity for crofters and stakeholders across Scotland to have their say on the future of crofting. Crofting is a unique and valuable part of our heritage and culture, and it plays a significant role in our rural communities. It is important that we get this right.”

The consultation covers a range of topics, including:

Technical improvements and simplifications to crofting law

Enforcement of crofter’s duties

New powers for the Crofting Commission to support crofters and crofting communities

Gary Campbell, Chief Executive of the Crofting Commission, added: “We encourage all crofters and stakeholders to participate in this consultation. This is your chance to make your voice heard and help shape the future of crofting in Scotland. The Scottish Government is committed to working with the crofting community to ensure that crofting continues to thrive.”

The consultation is open until the 2nd of September 2024 and can be accessed online at the Scottish Government’s consultation website

The Crofting Commission is committed to supporting crofters and stakeholders in responding to the consultation. The Scottish Government will be holding a series of information events across Scotland in the coming months. Details of these events will be available on our website and social media channels.
