The Scottish Government has today, Thursday 6th of February 2025, announced the appointment of Andrew Thin as the new Chair of the Crofting Commission. Mr. Thin takes over from Malcolm Mathieson, who has served as Convenor since 2021.
Mr. Thin brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as a commissioner since 2022 and previously serving as a commissioner in the Crofters Commission. Andrew has extensive experience in working across the Highlands and Islands in many roles focussing on economic, environmental and social development. His expertise in rural affairs and agriculture as well as social policy will be invaluable in guiding the Commission as it continues to support and develop crofting communities across Scotland.
Gary Campbell, Chief Executive of the Crofting Commission, welcomed the appointment, saying: “We are delighted to welcome Andrew Thin as the new Chair of the Crofting Commission. His extensive knowledge and understanding of rural Scotland will be a tremendous asset to the organisation. He has been instrumental in shaping the Commission’s work and has left a lasting legacy.”
