Service Updates

From the 1st of September 2023 the Crofting Commission is changing how it processes applications and notifications. This page will detail any changes and provide you with more information about how these changes will affect your application or notification. This page will be updated regularly as changes are brought forward.

Incomplete Applications

To drive future efficiencies, and allow staff more time to focus on applications which have been completed in full, the Commission is changing the way it deals with applications at the initial assessment stages. This will streamline its procedures so they mirror other government departments and public agencies.

From the 1st of September 2023, the Crofting Commission will allow applicants and their agents one opportunity to provide any missing information the Commission has requested or to resolve mapping issues within 28 days. The Commission will accept requests for a reasonable extension period or request additional guidance. However, if no response is received, the case will be closed as incomplete if the applicant has not provided the requested information.

It is therefore in the interests of all applicants and their agents to familiarise themselves with the requirements of each application type before applying, to avoid case closure and preventable delays.

Where possible, the Commission encourages applicants and their agents to submit applications via the Digital Online Portal, which minimises the risk of submission of an incomplete application.
