An Assessor is a person appointed by the Crofting Commission with knowledge of crofting, who lives in a crofting area and is a point of contact for crofters, providing advice and guidance on crofting matters. Assessors also assist the Commission on matters related to crofting.
A list of our current Assessors and the areas they cover can be found below.
We have started the appointment process for a new panel of Assessors. This will be confirmed in February 2018. We are not necessarily looking for one Assessor per parish, as in previous years. We will focus more on recruiting people with the right skills and this may result in the Assessor covering an area out-with their own immediate locality.
Assessors can reclaim receipted travel and subsistence expenses as well as loss of earnings for any time off required to perform work on behalf of the Commission.
If you are part of a crofting community and want to be more involved, you will find a copy of the role description and essential/desirable criteria for Assessors, along with an application form to complete below.
Application forms should be returned to the Commission by 8 January 2018.
